What is a Dermal Filler?
A dermal filler is a substance that is injected into the skin to give it volume and definition while filling in wrinkles. It can also be used to add volume and softness to the lips. Dermal fillers are often made with a hyaluronic acid solution — Restylane is one of these dermal fillers.
How Does Restylane Work?
Restylane is comprised of a hyaluronic acid gel solution. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring carbohydrate found in the body that works in many different ways to keep us healthy and active. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid adds volume to it, smoothing wrinkles and fine lines.
What Areas can Restylane Treat?
Restylane can be used to both correct moderate wrinkles and fine lines. It is particularly effective in treating the cheeks, midface, jowls, temples, jawlines, tear troughs and also other fine lines. Restylane can also be used to enhance the shape, texture, and fullness of the lips.
What Should I Expect from my Treatment?
Restylane injections are fast — less than 30 minutes, relatively painless, and require absolutely no downtime. The effects of Restylane injections have been known to last up to a year, depending upon the area being treated.
Are there any Side-Effects?
Most patients who receive Restylane don’t experience any side-effects. Minor bruising and swelling may occur, but this generally subsides a few days after your injection. If you experience any side effects worse than these, it’s important that you contact your doctor immediately.
Am I a Good Candidate for Restylane?
Restylane is best suited to patients seeking to fill in moderate wrinkles and fine lines. If you have deep lines or severe wrinkles you would like to soften, Perlane would be more effective for meeting your cosmetic goals. During your consultation, your doctor will discuss your aesthetic goals and medical history, and take these into consideration when deciding what course of treatment is right for you.
