Microlaser peels are cosmetic treatments that can be used to soften the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and areas of skin that have become rough or unevenly pigmented due to sun damage or certain scars. Unlike microdermabrasion where a fine spray of crystals is used to exfoliate the very top layer of the skin, microlaser peels penetrate more deeply into the layers of the epidermis.
How Does a Microlaser Peel Work?
The microlaser peel works by penetrating the epidermis and heating the water there to the point where the damaged or old skin is ablated, or vaporized. This causes the body to add a layer of collagen beneath the skin, which leaves it looking more youthful. Skin tone and pigmentation are also evened out.
The Microlaser Peel Session
These treatments are performed in the comfort of our office. During a session of the microlaser peel, the specialist uses a special machine to apply the lasers. Each session is designed to be quick and convenient. The patient can leave the office soon after the treatment has been completed.
Depending on how deeply the microlaser penetrated, the patient’s skin may be tight and red for a day or so after their microlaser peel, much like it would after a sunburn. The patient can use a cold compress or an ice pack to ease any discomfort. The patient should also stay out of the sun as they heal, and if that’s not feasible, they should wear a powerful sunscreen when they go outside. Of course, our team will make sure to provide exact instructions for healing and aftercare.
Can a Microlaser Peel Be Done More Than Once?
Most skin care specialists recommend that microlaser peels be done more than once for the best results. Many patients have a series of treatments that are spaced a set amount of time apart.
